ATLANTA-Oct. 21, 2013·- GE supports West End Medical Centers Inc. (WEMC), a 501c3 non-profit in metro-Atlanta, in rebranding as The Family Health Centers of Georgia, Inc. Accompanied by a redesigned logo and novel website, the organization’s new brand conveys the non-profit’s primary goal-to provide affordable access to health care excellence to medically under-served populations of metro-Atlanta.

In 2012, 15.4 percent of the U.S. population was uninsured, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act on Oct. 1, 2013, all uninsured Americans are able to enroll in a health plan. The center understands the importance ofthis for U.S. Citizens and for providing another option to residents of Fulton, Cobb and surrounding counties in the midst of this significant health care transition. Georgia was recognized as one of the top five states with worst health coverage according to the Census Bureau’s 2012 American Community Survey.

The official launch will take place Monday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the corporate headquarters, located at 868 York Avenue in Atlanta. Dr. Michael W. Brooks, president and chief executive officer ofThe Family Health Centers of Georgia Inc., Board Chair Brenda Muhammad and Denise Cullinan, vice president of GE Capital, are scheduled to speak. Additionally, various patients and partners will share what the health centers and its rebranding means to them.

“Since our inception, our mission has been to provide affordable access to health care services to all, including at risk populations such as the under-insured and the uninsured,” said Brooks. “With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, we have been federally certified as a Certified Application Counselors Designated Organization that can provide uninsured patients and the community with free assistance in choosing a health care plan.”

The Family Health Centers of Georgia Inc. has eight centers and currently serves more than 22,000 patients annually, generating 50,000 patient visits. Medical services include adult medicine, pediatric/adolescent, women’s health, OB/GYN, family planning, behavioral health, and dental. The main center, located at 868 York Avenue, offers an on-site laboratory and pharmacy. Community partners include Piedmont Healthcare, Morehouse School of Medicine, Emory, the Cobb/Douglas Service Board and Fulton County Health & Wellness.

GE chose The Family Health Centers of Georgia Inc. as one of its Developing Health ™ partners, solidifying its commitment to aid uninsured populations to receive health care with a financial contribution of $850,000. By providing the center with a marketing team to assist in branding design and market research, GE helped define and create The Family Health Centers of Georgia Inc. logo and motto. In addition, over the last three years, GE has provided more than $850,000 to The Family Health Centers of Georgia Inc. to help create new or expand existing health care services.

“Previously, we had little resources to help us tell our story,” said Margarethia Bledsoe, director of marketing at The Family Health Centers of Georgia Inc. “GE helped us tell our story and without its support, we would not have a brand that encompasses all our centers under one umbrella or clearly identifies who we are and what we do in providing quality health care for the entire family.”

“GE employees are dedicated to providing hands-on support and outreach to medically underserved populations,” stated Cullinan. “We’re proud to assist The Family Health Centers of Georgia in telling its story.”
