The
Urgent Crisis Facing Our Youth
FHCGA
is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving
more than 20,000 patients annually across Fulton, Cobb, Clayton, Douglas, and
Henry counties. Over 95% of our patient population consists of individuals and
working families living at or below federal poverty guidelines.
This year, the proceeds from the "Sounds of Good Medicine" concert will specifically fund targeted interventions for children and youth who are disproportionately suffering from systemic health challenges. Sponsorships will directly support FHCGA's specialized pediatric programs designed to combat three of the most critical threats to our children's futures:
- The Behavioral Health Crisis: According to data from Voices for Georgia's Children, nearly 1 in 4 Georgia children suffer from an emotional, behavioral, or developmental condition. Shockingly, 41% of Georgia youth cannot access the mental health care they need due to a severe specialist shortage and an inability to pay. For low-income children, the gap is devastating: 151 of Georgia's 159 counties face a health professional shortage, and families often wait six to eight months for an appointment. FHCGA integrates behavioral health directly into our pediatric primary care to bypass these barriers.
- Asthma Management: Pediatric asthma is a leading cause of chronic school absenteeism in metro Atlanta. Children living in low-income urban neighborhood - often located near heavily trafficked transit corridor - experience significantly poorer asthma symptom control and impaired lung function. FHCGA provides comprehensive education, inhaler management, and preventative screenings to prevent expensive, traumatic emergency room visits.
- Childhood Obesity: Georgia's youth suffer from an
obesity rate that is higher than the national average, with nearly 24%
of third-graders classified as obese. For our patients, a lack of
access to affordable nutritious food and safe recreational spaces triples
this risk. FHCGA's wellness initiative, 868FitJr offers medical
monitoring, nutritional counseling, and family fitness tracking to break
the cycle of chronic illness early.
Thank you again for helping
The Family Health Centers of Georgia, Inc. impact the communities we serve with
high-quality, comprehensive healthcare without regard to the patients' ability
to pay. Your donations, great and small, are greatly appreciated.
